Legends Chess – Board of Directors

During June 2017, I was selected as a member of the Board of Directors, Legends Chess, Phoenix, AZ. Legends Chess is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to removing the barriers to having after school and tournament chess programs in Title 1 schools. Legends Chess strongly believes that anyone who wants to play the game of chess should have that opportunity. I was very excited to join this new organization to further give back to our community.

As a member of the Board of Directors, I am responsible for establishing broad policies and setting out strategic objectives, fundraising, and directing chess tournaments. For my 4th Annual ChessHelps Tournament, I invited 30 students from Title 1 schools to participate in my tournament and provided free United States Chess Federation (USCF) memberships. This was the first time many of these students ever attended a chess tournament. All the students really enjoyed the chess tournament and are committed to playing chess and are hoping to participate in the 2018 USCF National Chess Championships in Orlando, FL.

A few photos from our recent tournament on September 9, 2017 are shown below.
